Santa Clara Square 1 | Santa Clara, CA

This recently completed four-level, 550,000 sq. ft. cast-in-place concrete parking facility has the capacity to hold over 1,600 cars including a few electric vehicle charging stations. With a plan dimension of 630 feet by 254 feet the structure was too large to be built as one building. Thus, the structure includes a 12 inch seismic joint between the two halves of the building. The structure is laterally supported by concrete moment frames in both directions and post-tensioned slabs and beams to minimize deflections and cracking. Supported on driven piles, we worked closely with the contractor URS Corporation in San Jose to create the most optimum and safe foundation system. The facility includes an architecturally enhanced elevator tower and landing, with a glass exterior wall hung from the roof of the stair and elevator tower. Given the extremely tight schedule for design approval and construction we worked closely with Shums Coda of Pleasanton and the City of Santa Clara to expedite the plan check review and ensure a timely construction start. We are working on Phase 2 and 3 as well.

670 Newport Center Dr. Parking Structure | Newport Beach, CA

This is an eight level parking structure with four levels of subterranean parking. The structure is bounded on three sides by an existing hotel, parking structure, and a new office building. Soldier piles and lagging were used as the excavation method for construction of the subterranean portion. FWCSE’s design included a poured-in-place 21” thick concrete wall which formed the basement. The entire structure used cast-in-place post-tensioned concrete construction with special reinforced concrete shear wall as the lateral system. The entire exterior is cladded with precast concrete panels.

Biola University Parking Structure | La Mirada, CA

This project at Biola University incorporates an existing soccer field and running track designed over a surface parking lot. The existing gym building is to the west, a service/access road and creek to the east, surface parking on the south and existing buildings on the north, bound the site. Several issues were balanced to adequately provide additional parking to the campus – existing pedestrian and vehicular traffic, the increased traffic created by the new 550 new spaces, functional relationship between the gym and field, future parking growth (an additional 500 to 1,000 spaces to the south) and site-specific conditions (utility line locations, soils conditions, as well as the adjacent creek).
