Titled “Earthquake Hazard Mitigation of Wood Frame Construction”, the research project was funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency through a grant administered by the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services.

Structural testing of lateral stucco shear wall components from the Northridge Meadows Apartment Complex was completed at the University of California, Irvine. The tests were used to understand collapse failure modes for this three story, multi-unit residential structure.

Six, four story multi-unit residential buildings were constructed in various configurations that required evaluation. Laboratory testing of various seismic resisting systems including shot pins, gypsum shear walls, and shear transfer components were conducted at the University of California, Irvine.
