International Union of Operating Engineers Training Facility | Houston, TX

The training facility for the International Union of Operating Engineers spans over 300,000 sq. ft. and consists of several buildings including on-site training facilities, classroom buildings, dormitories, administrative offices, a conference center, warehouse, and shop. FWCSE designed all structural elements which consisted of structural steel systems with some masonry, concrete and cold formed steel.

Roberts Pavilion Claremont McKenna College | Claremont, CA

This 3-level, 144,000 sq. ft. pavilion houses a recreational fitness center, an athletic arena, and an events center and will serve as the athletic center for Claremont McKenna College. The exterior consists of a terracotta rain screen with color accents representing the school colors. FWCSE designed and details the interior and exterior cold-formed steel framing for the structure. Special considerations were given to the design of the 2-level, 45 foot metal stud interior walls.

UCSD East Mesa Parking Structure | La Jolla, CA

FWCSE designed this 5-level, cast-in-place post-tensioned concrete parking facility with 900 stalls that will serve the new East Mesa Graduate Housing complex. The structure consists of a long-span beam and slab system with moment frames. Special consideration was given to creating a seismic joint at all levels to separate the parking decks from the masonry elevator and stair tower. FWCSE’s scope also included the large steel canopy above the cantilevered stairs.

Long Beach Community College Liberal Arts Campus Parking Structure | Long Beach, CA

This is a 5-level, 295,000 sq. ft. cast-in-place post-tensioned slabs and beams concrete structure with space for 900 stalls. Concrete moment frames were used on all four sides of the structure to support the lateral seismic loads. The facility also included a stand alone elevator and stair tower as well as a 33,000 sq. ft. steel canopy that supports photovoltaic panels. FWCSE’s structural design was successfully reviewed and approved by the Department of State Architect (DSA).

San Francisco School | San Francisco, CA

This project consisted of demolishing an older, 1-level school building and replacing it with a new structure which has two levels plus a mezzanine spanning over 18,000 sq. ft. The building will serve as a community center and includes a gymnasium for sports and performing arts as well as classrooms on the top level. FWC provided structural engineering services for the design and detailing of the exterior cold-formed steel framing for the new center.

ELAC Math and Science Complex | Los Angeles, CA

The Math and Science complex at the East Los Angeles College is a 4-level structure with approximately 101,000 sq. ft. that was constructed as part of a two phase redevelopment project on the campus. The main building, G5, contains classrooms, offices and labs for math, life sciences, and chemistry. The project also included the renovation of two existing buildings as well as the demolition of an older building and the construction of an additional two new structures. FWCSE designed and detailed the exterior metal cold-formed steel framing for all wall and soffit systems in the main complex. Our structural drawings were successfully reviewed and approved by DSA.

UCI Mesa Court | Irvine, CA

The Mesa Court Student Housing Towers offer 250,000 sq. ft. of residence halls, community spaces, and indoor and outdoor dining facilities. The three, 6- level buildings are an expansion to the Mesa Court student neighborhood and adds over 800 beds for students. The community spaces include classrooms, study rooms, lounges, and a fitness center. FWCSE designed and detailed the exterior and interior cold-formed steel framing for the three student housing towers. The scope included hanging gypsum ceilings, room divisions, and exterior framing.

SDSU Student Housing | San Diego, CA

FWCSE designed the load-bearing cold-formed steel framing on the upper five levels of this new 180,000 sq. ft. student housing complex. The project also incorporated non-load-bearing framing around and under the podium. The first level above the podium contains some structural steel allowing for more open space in the common areas. A state seismic peer review process consistent with the CSU system was also performed.
