The primary focus of forensic structural engineers is resolution.  The skill set required to advance a structural engineering issue toward resolution is significantly more than the skills possessed by design engineers or building contractors.  Not only must forensic structural engineers possess broad experience in the design of structures, as well as a thorough understanding of structural behavior, but they must have a superior depth of knowledge in the analysis, research and testing of structural systems.  In addition, forensic structural engineers must be persuasive, able to communicate the results of their investigation analytically, verbally and visually.  Such communications provide clarity to the relevant structural concepts and cost-effective solutions needed to remedy structural engineering issues.  Mr. Ficcadenti and his team of forensic structural engineers not only possess but are highly proficient in applying the above skill set.  For over 30 years, Mr. Ficcadenti has successfully investigated thousands of structural engineering claims, advancing them toward resolution.

Mr. Ficcadenti received his undergraduate and graduate education at Stanford University, earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering, with an emphasis on structural engineering.  He has been the structural engineer of record on hundreds of major building projects.  Since founding Ficcadenti Waggoner and Castle in 1991, he has developed thousands of structural retrofit designs used to resolve structural engineering claims.  Post settlement, Mr. Ficcadenti is often asked to serve as the engineer of record to implement his recommended repair solutions.  Mr. Ficcadenti has testified in over 90 trials, and dozens of arbitrations and judicial reference proceedings.  On occasion, Mr. Ficcadenti has been asked to serve as a court appointed expert or as an independent expert to aid the parties in resolving disputes regarding structural engineering issues.
